Dear brother or sister,
Lamentable, but sadly unsurprising.
Yesterday morning brought news that should concern every Christian in Canada who believes the Bible is the Word of God: the Liberal government has struck a deal with the Bloc Québécois to remove religious exemptions from Canada's hate speech laws.
This Giving Tuesday, I'm writing to you about a principle that now threatens every church, every pastor, every Christian parent in this country: Selectivity.
Under the current Criminal Code, Section 319 protects good-faith religious expression based on Scripture. That protection is about to be stripped away through amendments to Bill C-9. The State will now make selective choices about which parts of the Bible are acceptable to teach and which are not.
Liberal MP Marc Miller, chair of the House Justice Committee, made the government's intentions crystal clear when he identified specific books of Scripture—Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Romans—as containing "clearly hateful" passages that should not be permitted as a defense against hate speech charges.
Let that sink in: A government minister has declared portions of God's Word should be criminal hate speech.
Because they do not believe in God, they feel entitled to assume roles that belong to Him alone—as editor of Holy Scripture, judge of true faith, and prosecutor of those who teach the whole counsel of God.
This is not a small policy adjustment. This is the State claiming authority over Scripture itself.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre rightly warned that these amendments would "criminalize sections of the Bible, Quran, Torah, and other sacred texts," calling it an assault on freedom of expression and religion.
Some will say, "This will only apply to extreme cases of public incitement."
But the law's vagueness is precisely the danger. What constitutes "public incitement of hatred"? A sermon on Romans 1? A Bible study on marriage from Genesis 2? A Christian school teaching what Scripture says about human sexuality? Parents counselling their teenager according to Deuteronomy?
The government says you can "read whatever you want"—but if you teach it, preach it, or counsel by it, you may face criminal prosecution. And now, citing Scripture in your defense will itself be illegal.
This is why Alberta Reformer exists.
We are not another organization offering cautious, poll-tested responses.
We exist to equip Alberta's Christians with the theological depth, strategic clarity, and province-wide networks needed to build something that can endure—a robust, faithful Christian witness on the eastern slopes of the Rockies.
While some leaders maintain careful distance from serious biblical conviction, we are unapologetically calling every pastor, parent, business owner, and elected official in Alberta to stand firmly on the Crown Rights of King Jesus—without apology, without compromise.
We're producing the articles, policy papers, leadership training, and reform initiatives Alberta needs to remain a place where Christ is honoured and His whole Word is preached faithfully.
But we cannot do it alone. As a non-profit company, we rely on partners like you to fulfill our mission.
Every dollar you give to Alberta Reformer on this Giving Tuesday goes directly toward:
- Training the next generation of Protestant pastors, politicians, and cultural leaders who will not bend when the State demands they edit Scripture
- Building province-wide networks of churches and families ready to stand together when pressure intensifies.
- Producing resources that boldly proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord over all of Alberta—including over Caesar.
This isn't just another group asking for year-end support.
This is about whether your children and grandchildren will grow up in an Alberta where they can teach the whole Bible without fear of prosecution. Where pastors can preach from Leviticus, Deuteronomy, and Romans. Where Christian parents can raise their children according to all of Scripture, not just the parts the State approves.
"Beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils…" (Matthew 10:17)
"They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God." (John 16:2)
The hour is here. The threat is real. The need is urgent.
Will you stand with us?
No gift is too small, nor is any gift too large. Recurring monthly gifts are especially powerful as they allow us to plan a long-term strategy and build enduring networks instead of merely reacting to crises.
On this Giving Tuesday, as you consider where to invest in God's kingdom, I pray you'll consider investing in a hopeful future for Alberta—and in the freedom to proclaim the whole counsel of God without the State's permission.
For King Jesus and for Alberta,
Clint Humfrey
